Why Women’s Barefoot Dress Shoes Matter

Given how common bunions are among women, cute barefoot dress shoes are a must for anyone who cares about foot health. Unlike typical stylish shoes—which often squeeze your toes and throw off your alignment with heels—barefoot dress shoes let your feet relax naturally. To keep your feet truly happy, here’s what to look for in women’s barefoot dress shoes:

  • Flat
  • Flexible
  • Foot Shaped

But that doesn’t mean you have to settle for frumpy shoes! This list of barefoot dress shoes for women checks all my healthy‑shoe boxes and still looks chic enough to pair with trendy outfits. These are my go‑to barefoot dress shoes when I want to look stylish and feel amazing. Let’s dive in!

If you’re shopping for men’s styles instead, take a look at my list of the Best Men’s Barefoot Dress Shoes

The Best Women’s Barefoot Dress Shoes

Shapen Poppy

Leather & Vegan Option | Sizes 36-43 | Available At:

Shapen Barefoot

What I Love About Them: Obviously, I love that they’re absolutely adorable! In my opinion, they’re the best‑looking barefoot dress shoes out there. Whenever I want to really dress up, these are the ones I grab. The open design helps lengthen the look of your legs, and the detailing on the vamp keeps the wide toe box from appearing bulky. It’s rare to find an elegant shoe that doesn’t squeeze your toes—but the Shapen Poppy nails it! Plus, the soles are thin and super flexible for true barefoot comfort.

Sizing & Fit Type: A shoe with this much open space can be tricky to fit just right. They tend to run long, and too much extra length makes them flop around—so most people size down by one. They’re offered in two widths: Regular and Wide. The Regular is already wider than most dress shoes and fits my wide feet comfortably. I’d only recommend the Wide if your feet are extra wide.

Shapen Barefoot also makes several other gorgeous barefoot dress shoes. My second favorite is the Calla sandal—it’s easily one of the prettiest barefoot sandals out there for extra wide feet! Another great pick is the Tulip ballet flat, which comes in two widths and a range of beautiful colors.

Groundies Ballet Flats

Leather | Sizes EU 36-43 | Available At:

Groundies US

Groundies EU

What I Love About Them: Groundies makes beautiful barefoot ballet flats in a variety of colors—perfect for both timeless closet staples and fun, eye‑catching styles. The quality is always excellent, and they pair effortlessly with my professional outfits. Some styles even come in an extra wide width called Barefoot+!

The soles are super soft and flexible, making these some of the most comfortable barefoot dress shoes I own. Best of all, they look just like classic ballet flats—minus the pinchy toe box. I swapped out my old flats for Groundies, and my toes have never been happier!

Sizing & Fit Type: Groundies ballet flats fit true to size in the regular Barefoot width, but run slightly large in Barefoot+. I recommend the Barefoot width if your feet are average or moderately wide, and Barefoot+ if your feet are extra wide.

Since ballet flats don’t have straps or adjustable parts, getting the right fit can be a bit trickier. I like to keep some moleskin handy in case of heel slipping—but overall, Groundies flats stay on my slim heels surprisingly well!

Softstar Ballerine

Leather | Grounding Option | Sizes 5U-12U | Available At:

Softstar Shoes

What I Love About Them: For a while, I had a bit of a long‑distance love affair with Tieks. I adored their bright colors and huge range of options—but I could never keep them because they hurt my toes so much! So when I discovered that Softstar lets you customize their flats in over 30 colors, I did a little happy dance: the same fun, colorful look and quality as Tieks—without the pinched toes!

Each pair is handmade from durable leather, and you can really feel how sturdy they are. The soles have a bit of cushioning, making them a great option if you’re new to barefoot shoes or prefer something slightly thicker. You can even choose a grounding version with a leather sole.

Sizing & Fit Type: Softstar Ballerines come in two widths: Regular and Wide. I wear a Regular size 6U (which equals a US women’s 7 or EU 37), while Samantha opts for the Wide version. As you can see in the photo below, the Wide fit is roomier all around—which is great for wider feet, but it might be tricky if you have narrow heels.

Be Lenka Ballet Flats

Leather & Vegan option | Sizes EU 36-43 | Available at:

Be Lenka Barefoot

What I Love About Them: Be Lenka ballet flats have a slightly thicker sole than many other barefoot flats, making them a great choice if you’re on your feet all day. They’re simple yet sleek and classy, so they pair beautifully with almost any dressy or stylish outfit. Beyond ballet flats, Be Lenka also offers classic oxfords, loafers, a mesh vegan flat, and even dressy boots—perfect for elevating both men’s and women’s formal looks!

Sizing & Fit Type: Since these flats have a bit more structure, I did find them slightly stiff at first—but they soften nicely after a break‑in period. The sizing runs true to size, and the ballet flats are best suited for medium‑width feet. Keep in mind that Be Lenka’s dressy boots and oxfords tend to fit wider than their flats.

Crupon Sandals

Leather | Sizes EU 35-41 | Available At:

Crupon Sandals

What I Love About Them: Crupon Sandals didn’t originally make barefoot shoes, but I loved their rustic, handmade styles so much that I actually convinced them to create a wider, thinner version. It was such a success with their customers that they now offer barefoot versions of many of their lovely flats and sandals!

While I wouldn’t wear them to a formal office setting, they look gorgeous paired with dresses and skirts for church, weddings, brunch, and similar occasions.

Sizing & Fit Type: Crupon’s barefoot line is a great fit for wide feet, though probably not the best choice for extra‑wide feet. The shoes have a mountain‑shaped design and fit snugly around the heel and ankle, so they stay secure and don’t flop. The Febo and Febo Cross models fit higher volume over the ball of the foot, while the other styles suit medium volume feet.

Lisbeth Joe

Leather | Sizes US Womens 5-12 | Available At:

Lisbeth Joe

What I Love About Them: Lisbeth Joe is a US brand dedicated entirely to stylish, dressy barefoot shoes for women.

The Harare is one of those dressy barefoot flats that’s hard to top. I love the scalloped detailing and the gorgeous color options—they’re exactly what I look for in a stylish shoe. I especially appreciate the ankle strap, which helps them fit securely while still looking elegant. The taupe shade works like a nude for me, making them perfect for everyday wear, date nights, and even special occasions. Lisbeth Joe also has a chic loafer and a dressy sandal, so there’s something for every look!

Sizing & Fit Type: Sizing depends on the model and it’s a good idea to consult the size chart before ordering. The close toes shoes fit a little narrow on my toes but I’ve had good success stretching them out by stuffing the toe box with socks or tissue overnight.

Lisbeth Joe shoes tend to work best for a thick high volume foot, so aren’t really optimal for my low volume feet (the Paris being an exception). But I love them and make them work. Some people with extra wide high volume feet are able to size up for even more toe space.

Vivobarefoot

Leather | Sizes EU 35-43 | Available At:

Vivobarefoot Women’s

What I Love About Them: In the past, Vivobarefoot’s women’s dress shoes were a bit hit or miss—but lately, they’ve really been getting it right. You can now find several classic staples that complement your outfit beautifully, no matter your style.

My personal favorite is their Chelsea boot. It has a sleek, close fit that makes it one of the best dressy barefoot boots out there. They’re super comfortable and look great with nearly everything in my wardrobe. I’m also a fan of the Opanka loafer, Ryder boot, and Gobi Hi lace‑up. Vivobarefoot offers a nice range of streamlined dress shoe options that work well with dresses, slacks, skinny jeans, leggings—you name it.

The only downside? Their boots aren’t always available year‑round. So if you’re reading this in spring or summer, check out my full list of barefoot Chelsea boots for more great alternatives!

Sizing & Fit Type: Vivobarefoot generally fits true to size and is best for medium‑width feet, though you can size up slightly if you need extra width. The Geo Chelsea, Ryder, and Opanka slip‑on have a lower volume fit, so they may not suit high‑volume feet. On the other hand, the Gobi and Ra styles work better for high‑volume feet thanks to their adjustable laces.

If your feet are extra wide or particularly thick, Vivobarefoot might not be the best match for you.

Xero Shoes Phoenix

Knit Textile | Sizes US 5-11 | Available At:

Xero Shoes

Xero Shoes EU

What I Love About Them: These Little Black Flats look effortlessly chic and truly go with everything. The only reason they’re in the runner‑up spot is because they’re out of stock most of the year!

I love a bit of toe box detail, and the Phoenix has just enough to look elegant while still letting your toes splay naturally. The knit version is soft, stretchy, and comes in lots of great colors—which is a big plus. Xero also offers a leather version, but I’m not a fan: it feels too narrow on my toes, too wide on my heel, and not soft enough overall. If your feet are straighter and on the narrower side, it could work for you. Otherwise, I recommend sticking with the knit. The sole has medium thickness, so it’s a good choice if you like a bit of extra cushion.

Sizing & Fit Type: These flats run true to size, and they come with a removable insole if you have high volume feet. I first tried a Women’s 6.5, but they weren’t staying on my foot well so I sized down to a 6 (EU 36) and they fit better. But like most flats on my narrow heels, if I really get moving they want to flop off. The material does stretch a little over time, so if they feel a bit snug at first you should be good.

Zaqq Barefoot

Leather | Sizes EU 37-48 | Available At:

Zaqq Qerp

Zaqq Riquet

What I Love About Them: Zaqq offers an impressive range of gorgeous women’s dress shoes, but my two favorites are the Qerp loafer and the Riquet boot. The fit and comfort of both are fantastic, and they’re so versatile—I can wear them with almost anything. Plus, they’re unique styles you really won’t find elsewhere.

Ordering from Zaqq can be a bit tricky since the website is mainly for German customers, and their customer service can be slow to reply. Still, these two pairs have been so good for me that I had to include them—and lots of people love their other beautiful designs too.

The Qerp is a timeless classic loafer made from velvety suede with a stylish metallic braided strap. The Riquet boot is sleek and minimal, with a buckle that adds a subtly edgy touch. Both have lasted me for years and still look stunning.

Sizing & Fit Type: Zaqq barefoot shoes have a medium width—slightly wider than brands like Vivobarefoot and Xero. They fit true to size and have a medium volume, which means I can comfortably add an insole for a more secure fit.

Their sandals, however, tend to run higher volume, so keep that in mind if you have lower‑volume (shallow) feet.

The Best Barefoot Dress Shoes For Narrow Feet

Here are a few adorable barefoot dress shoe options I’ve discovered that work well for narrow feet! If you often find barefoot dress shoes too wide, this list is just what you need.

Ahinsa – This vegan brand offers both narrow and extra‑narrow width options.

Angles Fashion (EU only) – Their ballet flats labeled “slim” are great for narrow feet, yet still feature a foot‑shaped toe box for natural comfort.

Crupon Sandals – Their Barefoot line features a wide toe box, while the other styles fit narrower feet. Just be sure to choose the no‑heel option when ordering.

Storehouse Flats – Simple leather flats in a ton of colors and patterns

Ursanina – You can have these custom made to your measurements, but the seller tends to make them on the narrow side regardless.

Tadeevo Ballet Pumps – Velvet & Mesh are vegan.

Xero Phoenix Knit – Comfy knit ballet flats: flexible sole, roomy toe box, stylish everyday wear.
